Increasing the recorded GVM of a vehicle already registered in New Zealand requires approval from the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and must be LVV certified. The kit must have suitable engineering evidence, be installed in line with the manufacturer’s instructions and be supported by the required documentation and identification label. 

New vehicles upgraded before their first New Zealand registration may follow a different compliance pathway, including an approved second-stage manufacturing process. What’s more, you can’t assume an Australian approval will make a GVM upgrade legal in New Zealand. The vehicle, kit and certification pathway must meet New Zealand requirements.
